Law Student Internship

Are you studying Law at university, are you in the final stages of your degree and would you like to gain experience of everyday practice in our firm? If so, you can apply for a student internship.

Please note: Fluent command of the Dutch language is a requirement.

Unfortunately, we do not offer internships in a Higher Professional Education (HBO) context.

What does the internship involve?
A student internship generally lasts for two months. We offer you the opportunity to become acquainted with all aspects of our firm’s daily practice so that you can get a good idea of the nature of the work involved in social and commercial immigration law.

You will work with our lawyers wherever possible by attending meetings and court hearings and assisting in the preparation of files. You will take internal courses and sit in on the recent case law reviews of the trainee lawyers. You will also be very welcome to attend the office drinks and other social activities.

Do you fit the profile?
Our firm deals only with ordinary immigration cases (i.e. no asylum cases). We would therefore expect you to be interested in this subject and to have at least taken administrative law as a subject in your degree course. Proficiency in Dutch is a must in order to have an enjoyable and beneficial experience as an intern with our law firm. Although the vast majority of our clients does not speak Dutch and client contact is not in Dutch, practically all written communication with the immigration department and judiciary is undertaken in Dutch.

We would also expect you to display commitment and initiative. The onus will mainly be on you to approach the lawyers for jobs, attendance at court hearings etc.

Who will guide you?
Anne Wijffelman will be your permanent mentor. However, the other lawyers for whom you work will also be glad to answer any questions you may have. You will, in principle, work for all our lawyers.

How do you apply?
Write us a letter or email of application, attaching your CV and list of marks, and send it to Anne Wijffelman. You will generally receive a reply within two weeks. In the event of a positive response, you will be invited for an interview.
